Friends With Money #102: The sweet spot

There's a magic number in superannuation that allows retirees to make the most of their own money and the age pension. It's called the super sweet spot.

This week on the Friends With Money podcast, Money's Tom Watson is joined by journalist Susan Hely to discuss how the sweet spot works.

  • Why should pre-retirees and retirees know about it?
  • What is the sweet spot for singles and couples?
  • How does the taper trap work?
  • What are the benefits of the aged pension?
  • Is it still worth having a larger super balance?

    Susan
Do you provide a service as an advisor and what would your fee be

  2. Trish Baldwin says:

I wish there was more advice, no not more, ANY advice, or articles, or guidance for the individual in a couple who retires at a different timeto their partner. Whilst this would surely be the majority of Australians, all the scenarios assume couples retire at the exact same time. All our friends and ourselves get really frustrated about this and it is impossible to navigate with no information that suits. Any plans to do articles on this real life scenario would be extremely well received!

  3. Nick Allanby says:

Yes, I absolutely agree with Trish. Not sure why the guidance always assumes couples retire at the same time and little focus on this subject…great magazine btw..cheers
